implosive therapy

implosive therapy, a form of therapy in which exposure to a stimulus that usually provokes anxiety desensitizes a person to that stimulus, thereby reducing fear and anxiety. It is similar to flooding, except that the stimuli is suggested, not real. Compare flooding, def. 2.
