immunotoxin (IT)

immunotoxin (IT) /-tok″sin/ , a toxin that is chemically attached to a monoclonal antibody and used to destroy a specific type of target cell. An example is the plant toxin ricin, which inhibits protein synthesis in tumor cells that are recognized by the antibodies to which ricin is attached.
