hypotension

hypotension /-ten″shən/ [Gk, hypo + L, tendere, to stretch] , an abnormal condition in which the blood pressure is not adequate for normal perfusion and oxygenation of the tissues. An expanded intravascular space, hypovolemia, or diminished cardiac output may be the cause.
