hyperpigmentation

hyperpigmentation /-pig′məntā″shən/ [Gk, hyper + L, pigmentum, paint] , a darkening of the skin. Causes include heredity, drugs, exposure to the sun, trauma, and adrenal insufficiency. Compare hypopigmentation. See also chloasma, melanocyte-stimulating hormone.
