hypernasality

hypernasality /hī′pərnāzal′itē/ [Gk, hyper, excess + nasus, nose] , excessively nasal speech resonance, which may result in unintelligible speech. The cause is velopharyngeal dysfunction with emission of too much air through the nose. Also called open rhinolalia. See also velopharyngeal insufficiency.
