histotoxin

histotoxin /-tok″sin/ [Gk, histos + toxikon, poison] , any substance that is poisonous to body tissues. Histotoxins are usually generated within the body rather than being introduced externally. An example is the tissue-destroying enzymes formed by bacteria such as Clostridium perfringens.
