hindgut

hindgut /hīnd″gut/ [ME, hind + AS, guttas] , the caudal portion of the embryonic alimentary canal. It is formed by the development of the tail fold and eventually gives rise to part of the small and large intestines, rectum, bladder, and urogenital ducts. Compare foregut, midgut. See also cloaca.
