high forceps

high forceps, an obstetric procedure in which forceps are used to deliver a baby whose head is not engaged in the birth canal. It is no longer considered acceptable or meeting the standard of care. Compare low forceps, mid forceps. See also forceps delivery, obstetric forceps.
