heparin sodium, an anticoagulant. INDICATIONS: It is prescribed in the treatment and prophylaxis of a variety of thromboembolic disorders. It inhibits blood clotting and prevents recurring coronary artery occlusion.
CONTRAINDICATIONS: Known hypersensitivity to this drug prohibits its use. It is given only when frequent monitoring of the coagulation status of the patient’s blood is possible.
ADVERSE EFFECTS: The most serious adverse reaction is hemorrhage. Vasospastic disorders may occur.
