hemoglobin E disease [Gk, haima, blood; L, globus, ball; E; Gk, dis, not; Fr, aise, ease] , a mild form of anemia caused by a genetic abnormality of the hemoglobin molecule. Worldwide it is the third most common form of hemoglobin disorder, primarily affecting people of Southeast Asian and African descent.
