hemihypertonia /-hī′pərtō″nē·ə/ [Gk, hemi + hyper + tonikos, stretching] , exaggerated tension in the muscles on one side of the body. In one form of the disorder, spasms may occur occasionally in different muscle groups on one side of the body.
