Harrington rod

Harrington rod /har′ingtən/ [Paul R. Harrington, American orthopedic surgeon, b. 1911] , one of the rigid, contoured metal rods inserted surgically, along with metal hooks, in the posterior elements of the spine to provide distraction and compression in the treatment of scoliosis and other deformities.
