gingival crater

gingival crater, a depression in the gum tissue, especially in the area of the former apex of interdental papilla. It is commonly caused by necrotizing ulcerative gingivitis, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), and food impaction against the tissue subjacent to the contact areas of adjacent teeth.
