gel filtration

gel filtration, a method of separating molecules by size. A solution containing molecules of various sizes is passed through a filter consisting of a porous material, generally a polyacrylamide or polysaccharide. The larger molecules are excluded from the interior of the filter and thus emerge from it earlier than the smaller molecules.
