gastrocolic reflex

gastrocolic reflex /-kol″ik/ [Gk, gaster + kolon, colon; L, reflectere, to bend backward] , a mass peristaltic movement of the colon that often occurs 15 to 20 minutes after food enters the stomach. When an infant is fed, this reflex may cause bowel movement.
