gas bacillus

gas bacillus [Gk, chaos + L, bacillum, small rod] , any of several species of bacillus that produce a gas as a by-product of their metabolism. Examples include Escherichia coli, which ferments lactose and glucose, and the clostridial species that produces gas gangrene.
