freebasing

freebasing, a chemical process (e.g., ether extraction, addition of ammonia) used to increase the stimulating effect of illicit drugs, such as cocaine, by converting the salt of the drug into its noncharged base form that can more readily enter the brain. The resulting product is smoked.
