foregut

foregut /fôr″gut/ [AS, fore, in front, guttas] , the cephalic portion of the embryonic alimentary canal. It consists of endodermal tissue and gives rise to the pharynx, esophagus, stomach, liver, pancreas, most of the small intestine, and respiratory ducts. Compare hindgut, midgut.
