fibrinogen

fibrinogen /fībrin″əjən/ [L, fibra, fiber; Gk, genein, to produce] , a plasma protein that is converted into fibrin by thrombin in the presence of calcium ions. Also called factor I. Compare fibrin. See also afibrinogenemia, blood clotting, fibrinolysis, thrombin.
