fibrin

fibrin /fī″brin/ [L, fibra, fiber] , a stringy insoluble protein produced by the action of thrombin on fibrinogen in the clotting process. Fibrin is responsible for the semisolid character of a blood clot. Compare fibrinogen. See also blood clotting, coagulation, fibrinolysis, thrombin.
