fetoscope /fē″təskōp′/ [L, fetus + Gk, skopein, to look] , 1. a thin catheter inserted through a small incision to allow for direct visualization of the fetus, the placenta, and the umbilical cord. 2. a specialized stethoscope for monitoring the fetal heartbeat.
