faucial isthmus

faucial isthmus /fô″shəl/ , the aperture of the mouth into the pharynx. The anterior pillars of the fauces form the glossopalatine arch; the posterior pillars form the pharyngopalatine arch. Also called oropharyngeal isthmus.
