erythrasma

erythrasma /er′ithraz″mə/ [Gk, erythros, red] , a bacterial skin infection common in the axillary or inguinal region, characterized by irregular reddish-brown areas. An asymptomatic disease, it is more common in diabetics and responds quickly to oral erythromycin. Compare intertrigo, tinea cruris.
