ergosterol

ergosterol /ərgos″tərôl/ , an unsaturated hydrocarbon of the vitamin D group isolated from yeast, mushrooms, ergot, and other fungi. When treated with ultraviolet irradiation it is converted into vitamin D2. See also calciferol, viosterol, vitamin D.
