equator /ē·kwā′tər/ [L, aequator, equalizer] , an imaginary line encircling a globe, equidistant from the poles, used in anatomical nomenclature to designate such a line on a spherical organ, dividing the surface into two approximately equal parts. Also spelled aequator.
