do not attempt resuscitation (DNAR)

do not attempt resuscitation (DNAR), an advisory that resuscitation of a patient should not even be attempted. The order is more strictly defined than the DNR (do not resuscitate), which may be interpreted as authorizing an attempt at resuscitation.
