disjunction /disjungk″shən/ [L, disjungere, to disjoint] , the separation of paired homologous chromosomes during anaphase of the first meiotic division, or the separation of the chromatids of a chromosome during anaphase of mitosis and the second meiotic division. Compare nondisjunction.
