diencephalon

diencephalon /dī′ənsef″əlon/ [Gk, di + enkephalon, brain] , the portion of the brain between the cerebrum and the mesencephalon. It consists of the hypothalamus, thalamus, metathalamus, and the epithalamus and includes most of the third ventricle.
