diaphragm stethoscope

diaphragm stethoscope, an instrument for auscultation of bodily sounds. Originally designed by René Laënnec (1781–1826), it consists of a vibrating disk, or diaphragm, which transmits sound waves through tubing to two earpieces. Also called binaural stethoscope. See also stethoscope.
