dandruff /dan″druf/ , an excessive amount of scaly material composed of dead, keratinized epithelium shed from the scalp that may be a mild form of seborrheic dermatitis or psoriasis. Treatment with a keratolytic shampoo is usually recommended to soften and remove the scales.
