cyclotron

cyclotron /sī′klətron/ [Gk, kyklos + electron, amber] , a device used to accelerate charged particles or ions. The particles bombard targets where they create radioactive species, which can be used as radiopharmaceuticals or to make neutrons for radiotherapy.
