cochlear nerve

cochlear nerve [L, cochlea, snail shell, nervus, nerve] , one of the main divisions of the eighth cranial nerve, with fibers that arise in spiral ganglion cells of the spiral organ and terminate in the dorsal and ventral cochlear nuclei of the brainstem. See also vestibulocochlear nerve.
