Clostridium difficile

Clostridium difficile /difis″ilē/ , a common inhabitant of the colon flora in human infants and sometimes in adults. It produces a toxin that causes pseudomembranous enterocolitis in persons receiving antibiotic therapy, causing watery diarrhea. It is highly infectious. Also called C. difficile.
