classic visceral leishmaniasis

classic visceral leishmaniasis, a form of leishmaniasis caused by Leishmania donovani, transmitted by the sandfly Phlebotomus argentipes, usually affecting older children or young adults. Humans are the only reservoir hosts. It occurs primarily in eastern India and Bangladesh.
