chemical antidote

chemical antidote [Gk, chemeia + anti, against, dotos, that which is given] , any substance that reacts chemically with a poison to form a compound that is harmless. There are few true antidotes, and treatment of poisoning depends largely on eliminating the toxic agent before it can be absorbed by the body.
