cervical conization

cervical conization, the excision of a cone-shaped tissue section from the endocervix, performed to obtain a tissue sample to establish a precise diagnosis. It may be performed with a scalpel or laser (“cold knife” technique) or with a wire loop heated electrically (large loop excision). See also cone biopsy.
