cavernous sinus syndrome

cavernous sinus syndrome, an abnormal condition characterized by edema of the conjunctiva, the upper eyelid, and the root of the nose and by paralysis of the third, fourth, and the sixth cranial nerves. It is caused by a thrombosis of the cavernous sinus.
