carditis

carditis /kärdī″tis/ , inflammation of the heart muscle, usually resulting from infection. In most cases more than one layer of muscle is involved. Chest pain, cardiac arrhythmia, circulatory failure, and damage to the structures of the heart may occur. Kinds include endocarditis, myocarditis, pericarditis.
