cardiospasm

cardiospasm /kär″dē·əspaz′əm/ [Gk, kardia + spasmos, pull] , a form of achalasia characterized by a failure of the cardiac sphincter at the distal end of the esophagus to relax. It causes dysphagia and regurgitation and sometimes requires surgical division of the muscle.
