capillary blood sample

capillary blood sample, a small amount of blood obtained by pricking the skin of the heel or finger with a lancet or needle so that it can be used for examination and/or analysis. Individuals can be taught to obtain this sample at home when frequent monitoring is necessary, as in blood glucose monitoring.
