canine fossa

canine fossa /kā″nīn/ [L, canis, dog; L, ditch] , (in dentistry) either of the wide depressions on the external surface of each maxilla, superolateral to the canine tooth socket. It is the origin of the levator anguli oris muscle. Also called maxillary fossa.
