calipers

calipers /kal″ipərz/ [Fr, calibre, bore of a gun] , an instrument with two hinged, adjustable, curved legs, used to measure the thickness or the diameter of a convex or solid body. It is also used to measure space on a graph and in measuring ECG patterns.
