Burkholderia pseudomallei

Burkholderia pseudomallei, a species that inhabits water and soil and causes melioidosis. Infection is spread via contact with a contaminated source and is a predominant disease of tropical climates. The species is a potential agent for bioterrorism. See also melioidosis.
