bulk cathartic

bulk cathartic [ME, bulke, heap; Gk, kathartikos, evacuation of bowels] , a cathartic (laxative) that acts by softening and increasing the mass of fecal material in the bowel. Bulk cathartics contain a hydrophilic agent such as methylcellulose or psyllium seed.
