biomechanic adaptation

biomechanic adaptation, a process in which a patient with a physical impairment adjusts to the use of an orthotic device, such as an ankle-foot brace or a patellar-tendon-bearing prosthesis. Adaptation requires the central nervous system input received during therapeutic exercises with the orthotic appliance.
