bicarbonate (HCO3̅)

bicarbonate (HCO3̅) /bīkär″bənāt/ [L, bis, twice, carbo, coal] , an anion of carbonic acid in which only one of the hydrogen atoms has been removed, as in sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3). Also called hydrogen carbonate.
