battledore placenta

battledore placenta /bat″əldôr′/ [ME, batyldoure, a beating instrument; L, placenta, flat cake] , a condition in which the umbilical cord is attached at the margin of the placenta. It rarely occurs and does not affect placental functioning. Also called placenta battledore.
