basophilic leukemia [Gk, basis + philein, to love, leukos, white, haima, blood] , an acute or chronic malignant neoplasm of blood-forming tissues, characterized by large numbers of immature basophilic granulocytes in peripheral circulation and in tissues. See also acute myeloid leukemia.
