Babkin reflex

Babkin reflex /bab′ kin/ , a reflex elicited in many newborn infants in which the infant’s mouth opens in response to pressure by the examiner’s thumbs on the palms of both hands of the infant. The persistence of the reflex beyond the fifth month of age is generally regarded as abnormal.
