avitaminosis /āvī′təminō″sis/ [Gk, a, not; L, vita, life, amine, chemical, osis, condition] , a condition resulting from a deficiency of or lack of absorption or use of one or more dietary vitamins. Also called hypovitaminosis. Compare hypervitaminosis. See also specific vitamins.
